Bunbeg and locale

From Dungloe and its famous family festival to the bridge at Crolly of the dolls, around Bunbeg you begin a wonderful voyage of discovery into Gweedore and The Rosses.

The north coast holds Gwebarra Bay and the village of Doochary – a haven for Trout and Salmon anglers. In the centre of Donegal is the picturesque Loch Finne and the Finn River – location of the famous ‘Salmon Leap’. ‘An Mhuch Dubh’, a restored narrow-gauge train will take you on a scenic tour along the banks of the Lough.

From Burtonport on the west coast you can take the car ferry to Aranmore Island.

Closer to home, Bunbeg’s beaches and Mount Errigal provide enchanting vistas of Sea and Sky. From Bunbeg the timeless islands of Tory, Gola, Inis Maan and Inisbofin are easily reached.

To the east of Bunbeg the breathtaking Bloody Foreland can be reached. Inland, up through the mystic mountains of Dunlewey, the impressive Lakeside Centre and the scenic Poison Glen provide inspirational stops on the way to Glenveagh National Park. Situated to the east of Sli Ulaidh, the park attracts visitors for its romantic castle, built by George Adair in 1857. It has beautiful gardens and a gloriously natural wild setting around Lough Veagh – where the largest red deer population in Europe is contained. The park has well signposted nature trails, as well as longer treks.
